The Lord knows the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish.
Psalm 1:6
I was meditating on Psalm 1 today, and a phrase in the last verse jumped out at me. “The Lord knows the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish.”
Obviously God “knows” the way of the wicked, in a literal sense. God knows everything. But this verse indicates there is a special familiarity God has for the way of the righteous. He knows their path, what direction they’re going. He has his eye on them.
How comforting to think that God is intimately familiar with your path, if you have chosen the righteousness that comes from walking in the Spirit. Our righteousness, of course, is not our own. We could never claim it by our own merit. But through accepting the sacrifice Jesus made on our behalf, we are clothed with his righteousness. And then, God takes extra care to know our way.
That way will not always be easy. But we have the assurance that God is with us, walking that way alongside. Maybe He’s sending His angels ahead on that way, to clear some of the obstacles. Maybe sometimes He is putting a roadblock in our path so that we’ll choose another way. Or maybe He’s simply making sure there’s enough room for two on the path. Ultimately, that way—whether smooth or bumpy—leads to His Kingdom, where we have the assurance that the righteous will live forever.
I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you should go; I will counsel you with My eye upon you.
Psalm 32:8

I really like the idea of God making a way for two on the path. It reminds me of the words in a hymn….and He walks with me, He talks with me, and He tells me I am His own!
Thanks Jessica we need to understands deep care and concern for each one of us.
Thanks!
Our Father actively leading us in His righteous path for His names sake. A blessing beyond measure! May we indeed follow, for His names sake!
