“God’s power is able to do FAR MORE ABUNDANTLY than all that we can even ask or THINK.”
Ephesians 3:20
Imagine having to watch helplessly as your grown son throws himself into the river while you’re washing clothes. Or into the open fire while you’re preparing dinner. And this has happened for as long as you can remember. You’re over it. You’re tired, overwhelmed, and wondering why God would allow you to go through something like this for so long.
Then here comes this stranger walking into your village—Jesus. You’ve heard rumors that God dwells in this guy (John 14:10) and that with a simple word or touch of a finger, this Jesus can completely heal your son. I mean, you’ve heard that the one and only divine spirit who created the universe has used human vessels to perform miracles in the past—you know, that story about Moses and stuff. But you’re not sure if that stuff happens anymore and it’s really difficult to believe that this man, Jesus, can do anything about this problem you and your family have been dealing with for years. But hey, “HELP ME BELIEVE THAT YOU CAN, JESUS!”
What a great thing to ask!
This father SAW Jesus with his own eyes! We can’t even see Jesus! How much more difficult is it for us to believe?!
The work of God is to believe in Jesus (John 6:29). To believe that the same Jesus through whom God healed the epileptic is risen . . . and is the same TODAY (Hebrews 13:8). To believe that as we continually humble ourselves and allow Jesus’ spirit to reign in our lives, God’s power is able to do FAR MORE ABUNDANTLY than all that we can even ask or THINK! (Ephesians 3:20)
Whew.
Help my unbelief.
Help me believe!
He will. I don’t know how he’ll do it, but he will.
