“Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” says the Lord.”
Romans 12:19
This verse supports the idea that we should not take revenge when someone does not treat us kindly—it tells us that we need to leave matters in God’s hands.
If someone treats us wrong, we need to be kind and be an example to them, rather than be rude in return just because we want instant revenge. It is up to God to decide what needs to be done, we just need to have patience, and faith in him.
On two different occasions, David let King Saul live even though King Saul was actively trying to kill him (1 Samuel 24: 1-15; 1 Samuel 26: 5-20). David made that choice because he was aware of God’s presence in his life. He knew God was helping him and would protect him, so he refused to take matters into his own hand.
Thanks for the reminder and the encouragement to be aware of God’s hand in our lives and to show our trust in Him in the way we treat others, even when they are against us.
