Shines Ever Brighter (Proverbs 4:18)

The path of the just is like the shining sun, that shines ever brighter unto the perfect day.

For those of us in the northern hemisphere, increasing daylight is a welcome event. More light in our lives is known to have its beneficial side effects. It . . .

• Gives us Vitamin D,
• Can improve our mood,
• Stabilizes our circadian rhythms, helping us get a better and deeper night’s sleep,
• Can decrease depression,
• Helps with cognitive performance.

Small wonder we like summer!

Interestingly, light was high on God’s agenda! He knew what was good for us.

“Let there be light.” And there was light.

Genesis 1:3

• Light in the Bible has come to represent something more profound than natural light. Unlike natural light—which will give us a sunburn if we get too much—we can never get too much of the true light.
  Jesus is “the true light which give light to every man coming into the world.”—John 1:9
• His life was one of light and he has asked us to walk in that light.
  “I am the light of the world: He who follows me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.”—John 8:12
• That light is meant to transform us, to shine ever brighter unto the perfect day. In reality it is a process in our quest to reflect that light.
  “For it is the God who commanded light to shine out of darkness, who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.”—2 Corinthians 4:6
• On a far greater scale it will transform the nations when Jesus returns.
  “Arise shine, for your light has come! And the glory of the Lord is risen upon you. For behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and deep darkness the people, But the Lord shall arise over you, and His glory will be seen upon you. The Gentiles shall come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your rising.”—Isaiah 60:1-3

Even so come Lord Jesus!
