Every good gift and every perfect present comes from heaven; it comes down from God, the Creator of the heavenly lights, who does not change or cause darkness by turning.

This short verse packs a real wallop. James manages to cover:
- Where good things come from;
- Who the creator is; and
- What God’s nature is.
All three of these topics are crucial to a good understanding of the Bible and our place in God’s plan. Once we establish that the good in our lives is sent from God, we know whom to thank and whom to turn to for more perfect presents. Believing that He will never change or cause darkness in our lives, we can rely on Him throughout our lives, confident that the creator of the universe is our good Father.
We know that God only knows what is good for us as Joseph explained in Genesis 50:20 “Ye thought evil against me, but God meant it unto good”.
All good gifts around us
are sent from heav’n above;
Then thank the LORD,
O thank the LORD,
For all His love.
