How great is God—beyond our understanding!
Job 36:26 (NIV)
The number of his years is past finding out.
Bad things happen. To all of us. Whether we are believers or atheists. Why? Why?
If God loves us and we love Him, why do we suffer?
This is the question that Job asked as horrible things piled on him, from the deaths of his loved ones to loss of personal property to terrible physical pain. And yes, of course he wondered why all this was happening BUT he never lost his faith.
What is the key to maintaining trust in God even as evil knocks at your door? How do you learn to trust someone? By getting to know them as well as you can, and examining whether they stick to their promises. Read the Bible, and consider the examples of faithfulness even in the face of trials that men like Job and Joseph and Ruth and Mary and Paul and of course, our Lord Jesus all show us. Did they enjoy that their lives were filled with tragedy? I am sure they did not, but throughout, they trusted in God’s plan and His promises.
Even though we cannot comprehend God’s greatness, and we cannot understand fully the concept of eternity, we can believe in His goodness and His assurance that He loves us, because He provides a reliable testimony for us to study.
He knows what He is doing.
Be still and know.
You hit it on the head Becky! Being a follower of Jesus is no guaranty of temporal blessings – in fact, its often just the opposite! Expect trials and heartache-they will bring you closer to our Father and He will be faithful to carry you through it!
Thanks, Tillie!
Yes, we don’t have the answers but we know God is good. Hallel YHWH.
Thank you, Becky! I really needed to hear your words right now. It seems to me patience is key to being “still”—a quality it’ll take a lifetime for me to develop!
We love you and Mal, Lin! May God bless you with the amount of patience you need, every day.
