“On my bed I remember you; I think of you through the watches of the night.
Psalm 63:6–8
Because you are my help, I sing in the shadow of your wings. I cling to you; your right hand upholds me.”
[written while recovering from back surgery]
Whether we are in bed to sleep at night, or in bed recovering from illness or injury, our Heavenly Father is ever present. He covers and protects us with his wings of grace and comfort.
These simple, yet most powerful verses in the psalm express our desire and our need to plead for God’s care and protection in our most vulnerable times and places.
Being flat on your back changes your perspective. You can’t look at the world the same way. That can shape us into more dependence on His guiding hand.
Psalm 4:8 I will both lay me down in peace and sleep; for thou, Lord, only makes me dwell in safety. Considering this was written by David when he was fleeing from Absolom and his army is amazing to me. Increase my faith so that I can have this confidence.
